KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University on Monday conferred the Honorary Doctor of Letters degrees on Rastrakavi Madhav Prasad Ghimire and veteran litterateur Indra Bahadur Rai.
At a special convocation ceremony of the University organised at the Sheetal Niwas today, President Bidya Devi Bhandari conferred the award on Rastrakavi Ghimire.
Rai, a native of Darjeeling in India, however, was absent during the function.
Addressing the function, President Bhandari said everyone including litterateurs and academics should be united for development of the nation.

Likewise, Prime Minister Oli, also the ex-officio Chancellor of the University, said knowledge, science, technology, culture and civilisation are needed for the national development.
TU Vice-Chancellor Tirtha Raj Khaniya said the University felt its academic height increased with the opportunity to honour the authors.
Before Ghimire and Rai, the oldest and biggest university of the nation has conferred honorary Ph.D. on 11 persons.
