प्रधानमन्त्री ओली: राष्ट्रिय स्वाभिमान, सार्वभौमसत्ता, राष्ट्रिय एकताप्रति सरकार प्रतिबद्ध

काठमाडौँ, फागुन ७ गते। प्रधानमन्त्री केपी शर्मा ओलीले वर्तमान सरकार शान्ति, लोकतन्त्र, सामाजिक न्याय, समानता, राष्ट्रिय स्वाभिमान, सार्वभौमसत्ता, राष्ट्रिय एकता र भौगोलिक अखण्डताप्रति प्रतिबद्ध रहेको बताउनुभएको छ ।

राष्ट्रपति विद्यादेवी भण्डारी, उपराष्ट्रपति नन्दबहादुर पुनलगायत विशिष्ट व्यक्तिको उपस्थितिमा सैनिक मञ्च टुँडिखेलमा ६६ औँ राष्ट्रिय प्रजातन्त्र दिवसको उपलक्ष्यमा आज आयोजित विशेष समारोहलाई सम्बोधन गर्दै उहाँले स्वतन्त्र, स्वाधीन, सार्वभौम र समृद्ध राष्ट्र निर्माणका लागि आजको दिनले हामी सबैलाई प्रेरणा प्रदान गर्ने विश्वास व्यक्त गर्नुभयो ।

राष्ट्रिय प्रजातन्त्र दिवस मूल समारोह समितिका अध्यक्षसमेत रहनुभएका प्रधानमन्त्री ओलीले सबै राजनीतिक दल र आम नेपाली जनतासँग मुलुकलाई समृद्धिको मार्गमा अघि बढाउन सहकार्यको लागि हार्दिक आग्रह पनि गर्नुभयो ।

प्रधानमन्त्रीले भन्नुभयो, ‘‘नेपाली जनताले सङ्घर्षबाट जहानियाँ निरङ्कुश शासनको अन्त्य गर्दै प्रजातन्त्र प्राप्त गरेको ऐतिहासिक दिन आज फागुन ७ गते राष्ट्रिय प्रजातन्त्र दिवसको उपलक्ष्यमा म आम नेपाली दाजुभाइ तथा दिदीबहिनीमा हार्दिक शुभकामना व्यक्त गर्दै यस उपलक्ष्यमा नेपाल र सम्पूर्ण नेपालीको उज्ज्वल भविष्यको कामना गर्नुभयो ।’’

उहाँले लोकतन्त्र, न्यायपूर्ण, स्वतन्त्र र समुन्नत नेपाल निर्माणका लागि २००७ सालअघि र त्यसपछिका जनआन्दोलनमा सहादत प्राप्त गर्नुहुने सम्पूर्ण ज्ञात अज्ञात सहिदप्रति नेपाल सरकारका तर्फबाट भावपूर्ण श्रद्धाञ्जलि अर्पण गर्दै जीवनभर प्रजातान्त्रिक मूल्य, मान्यता, आदर्श र सिद्धान्तप्रति प्रतिबद्ध रहनुभएका प्रजातन्त्रका सेनानीप्रति उच्च सम्मान प्रकट गर्नुभयो ।

विसं २००७ देखि नेपाली जनताले गरेको सङ्घर्षको परिणाम जननिर्वाचित संविधानसभाबाट २०७२ असोज ३ गते नेपाली जनताका आफ्नै प्रतिनिधिद्वारा लेखिएकोे संविधान जारी भएको बताउँदै प्रधानमन्त्री ओलीले यो संविधानले सबै नेपालीलाई राजनीतिक, आर्थिक, सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक हक समानरुपमा प्रदान गर्नुका साथै सामाजिक न्यायको प्रत्याभूति गरेको बताउनुभयो ।

उहाँले संविधानको कार्यान्वयनसँगै अब मुलुक आर्थिक–सामाजिक विकासको दिशामा अघि बढेको बताउँदै यस प्रक्रियालाई जति छिटो रफ्तारमा अघि बढाउन सक्यो हामीले प्राप्त गरेका राजनीतिक उपलब्धि र लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्रलाई त्यति नै समृद्ध र बलियो बनाउने बताउनुभयो ।

संविधान जारी भएपछि यसका केही प्रावधानलाई लिएर प्रकट भएका असन्तुष्टि, असहमति र गुनासाको सम्बोधनका लागि वार्ता र संवाद हुँदै आएको जानकारी दिँदै प्रधानमन्त्री ओलीले संविधानको पहिलो संशोधनबाट ती गुनासा र असन्तुष्टि आधारभूतरुपमा सम्बोधन भएको धारणा राख्नुभयो ।

केही असहमति वा गुनासा भए वार्ता र संवादकै माध्यमबाट सम्बोधन गर्न सकिने बताउँदै प्रधानमन्त्रीले संवादबाट समस्याको समाधान खोज्ने निरन्तरको प्रक्रियामा संलग्न रहन सबै पक्षलाई आग्रह गर्नुभयो ।

समारोहमा प्रधानन्यायाधीश कल्याण श्रेष्ठ, सभामुख ओनसरी घर्ती, उपप्रधानमन्त्रीहरु, मन्त्रीगण, सांसद, सुरक्षा निकायका उच्च अधिकारी, संवैधानिक निकायका पदाधिकारी, कूटनीतिक निकायका प्रतिनिधि, उच्च सरकारी पदाधिकारीलगायत सहभागी हुनुहुन्थ्यो ।

समारोहमा सेना, नेपाल प्रहरी सशस्त्र प्रहरी बल, राष्ट्रिय सेवा दल, नेपाल स्काउट र विद्यार्थीले मार्चपास गरेका थिए । त्यस्तै काठमाडौँ, ललितपुर, भक्तपुर, मध्यपुरथिमि र कीर्तिपुर नगरपालिकाले सांस्कृतिक झाँकी प्रदर्शन गर्नुका साथै राष्ट्रिय खेलकुद परिषद्बाट विभिन्न खेल प्रदर्शन गरिएको थियो । कार्यक्रम भइरहँदा समारोह स्थलमा हेलिकोप्टरबाट पुष्प वृष्टि पनि गरिएको थियो ।

PM addresses Democracy Day function, says govt commmittted to freedom, national unity

Kathmandu, Feb 19: Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has said that the government was committed to maintaining peace, democracy, social justice, equality, national integrity, sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity. 

While addressing the special ceremony organised at the Tundhikhel on the occasion of the National Democracy Day today, PM Oli opined that the day would inspire us on the way to nation building maintaining freedom, independency, sovereignty and prosperity.

Also present on the occasion were President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun among other VIPS.

He appealed all people and political parties for collaboration to take the nation forward on the way to prosperity. PM Oli wished for the bright and prosperous future of all Nepalis as it was on this historical day 65 years back that people had ended the tyrannical Rana regime through a long struggle.

Prime Minister Oli paid tribute to known and unknown mrtyrs who laid down their life for the democracy, freedom and prosperous Nepal.

Similarly, he paid high respect to those fredom fighters who have lived a respectful life.

Noting that the constitution that was promulgated on September 20, 2015 for the first time from people’s elected Constituent Assembly was the result of political movements waged by the people since 2007 BS, PM Oli said that the constitution has provided people with equal rights in politics, economy, and social and cultural realms, apart from ensuring their social justice.

Stating that alongside the implementatoin of the constitution, the country is heading towards the socio-economic development of the country, he said that it would be helpful in strengthening and prospering democratic republic and political achievements made so far once the development process is speeded up.

Informing that talks and dialogue were being held to sort out some grievances, dissatisfactions and disagreements to some provisions of the new constitution, PM Oli said that such dissatisfactions have fundamentally been addressed through the first amendment to the constitution.

Stating differences or grievances, if any, could be addressed through talks and dialogue itself, the Prime Minister urged all sides to be involved in the continuous process of seeking solution to problems through dialogue.
Present in the programme were Chief Justice Klayan Shrestha, Speaker Onsari Gharti, the Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers, lawmakers, high officials of the security bodies, office-bearers of the constitutional bodies, representatives of the diplomatic missions and high officials of the government.
The Nepalese Army, Nepal Police, the National Cadet Corps, Nepal Scouts and school children presented march-past on the occasion. The Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kirtipur and Madhyapur Thimi Municipalities displayed cultural floats while the National Sports Council organised the display of various sports. A helicopter scattered flower petals from the air as the National Democracy Day programme was in progress.
The 66th National Democracy Day is being celebrated across the country today in commemoration of the proclamation of democracy in the country on Fagun 7, 2007 BS and the abolishment of the 104-year long Rana autocracy.  RSS

‘Country’s development without enrichment of art and culture impossible’

Ilam, Feb 19: CPN-UML senior leader and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has said the country’s development without enrichment of art and culture is impossible.

At an interaction organized by Nepal Fine Art Forum Nepal in Ilam Chowk Bazaar this morning, leader Khanal said the art and culture are the treasure of the country so that their protection and development should be given due priority.

“All arts and cultures should be country-loving”, Khanal said, adding that culture sans sense of nationalism would not facilitate country’s development.

Khanal has arrived Ilam here to inaugurate the 28th anniversary of the People’s Cultural Federation beginning here from Friday. RSS

IGP Aryal underscores improved police-people relations

Biratnagar, Feb 19: Inspector General of Nepal Police Upendra Kanta Aryal said that the cordial relations between people and police would only consolidate law and order situation in society. 

Inaugurating the newly-constructed building of the District Police Office in Biratnagar-1 on Thursday, IGP Aryal said the lone efforts of the police force would not be adequate to combat crimes in society.

The crimes would not be checked by constructing many custody and prisons in the country, he asserted, adding police should work to win confidence of people and work for them in a long march to control crimes.

The building of police office was constructed at the total cost of Rs 97.39 million. RSS

Nepal PM Says Will Try to Mend Fences With India During Visit

KATHMANDU – Nepali Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli begins a state visit to giant neighbor India on Friday, looking to repair ties damaged by a row over the Himalayan republic’s first democratic constitution.

Nepal had accused India of imposing an economic blockade in support of a protest against the charter by ethnic minorities, many of whom share close ties with Indians across the border.

The four-month blockade was lifted this month.

Oli will meet his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, and President Pranab Mukherjee, among other officials.

His trip will focus on mending fences, but he did not expect to sign any new long-term agreements, he told reporters in Kathmandu.

“We all know that in the last few months there have been many misunderstandings between our two countries,” Oli said in the Nepali capital. “We now want to get our relationship back on track.”

Ties with India soured following the protests in Nepal’s Tarai-Madhes lowlands after the region’s ethnic Madhesi community said the charter, adopted in September, aimed to weaken its role in the power structure.

Analysts say Oli will hope his meeting with Modi shows political rivals back home that he too commands India’s support, considered crucial to keeping his administration in power, but a rapprochement with Delhi alone would not end his domestic woes.

“The fire raging in Madhes will not end by merely keeping India happy,” said Chandra Kishore, a Madhesi analyst. “The problem has to be addressed in Kathmandu seriously and not in New Delhi.”

Nepal amended the constitution to boost participation of the Madhesis in parliament but community leaders said the changes failed to address their central fear over the redrawing of the provincial borders in a way that would divide them.

The desperately poor country, home to Mount Everest, serves as a natural buffer between India and China, which jostle for influence with aid and investment.

Nepal will press India for early completion of projects such as construction of feeder roads and cross-border electric transmission lines, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel said.

Nepal PM to undertake six-day India visit from today

Kathmandu, Feb. 19 (ANI): Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli will arrive in New Delhi today on a six-day visit to India. This is first visit of Mr Oli abroad after assuming office in October last year.

Mr Oli will be accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourts of the Rashtrapati Bhawan tomorrow.

The visiting dignitary will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold delegation level talks. Thereafter, the two countries will exchange agreements.

Mr.Oli will be accompanied by senior members of the Nepal Cabinet. During the visit, the two sides are expected to hold wide ranging discussions on issues of mutual concern, as well as on strengthening bilateral cooperation in diverse areas including developmental assistance, energy and connectivity.

The visit is expected to lead a further strengthening of India’s age-old, close and friendly relations with the Himalayan nation. Speaking to media on the eve of his visit to India, Mr Oli said, rebuilding the friendship with India is Nepal’s biggest mission and the the focus is to take the bilateral relations to a new heights.

Ahead of his visit, Prime Minister Oli said India’s invitation to him for an official visit is indicative of its acceptance to Nepal’s recently promulgated constitution.

“It wouldn’t be wise to say that the constitution has not been welcomed since the prime minister after its promulgation has been invited with the honour,” he said.

He said during his visit he will clear the doubts about Nepal in India, bring the relations between the two friendly nations back to normal, inform India about the growing investment-friendly environment in Nepal and strengthen the multidimensional Nepal-India relations.

“As my India tour has been termed ‘agenda less’ so I have a bigger responsibility on me. With specific agendas, I would have been confined with limited issues but now I will have to talk about a range of issues,” Oli told media at his official residence in Baluwatar in Kathmanduon on Thursday.

“I have great expectation from this visit. India has already begun to show friendly gestures and I will make sure to take it to a new height. I will not forge any agreements that are against national interest.”

Oli also said that his India visit follows invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Like Nepal, India too has given utmost importance to this visit. So this visit has been called state visit,” he said.

When asked whether he will bring up the issues of Nepal-India border, Oli replied that this is not a time to talk about such issues.

He said Nepal-India relations are based on honesty, friendliness and trust upon each other rather than on crooked diplomacy.

Apart from having delegation-level talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, Oli will call on President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, and interact with several Indian ministers and officials.

According to a report in the Kathmandu Post, at least four memorandums of understanding (MoUs), including two on line of credit and reconstruction aid, are expected to be signed during the visit.

The MoUs will be signed on an India-announced USD 1 billion line of credit and another USD 1 billion assistance for Nepal’s reconstruction effort. These two MoUs will provide framework for utilising the Indian aid.

During his visit to Nepal in August 2014, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced USD 1 billion line of credit to Nepal for various infrastructure projects.

Similarly, India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during the donors’ conference in June had announced another USD 1 billion loan and aid to Nepal for reconstruction efforts.

Another MoU is expected to be signed between Sanggeetnatak Academy of India and Natya Sangeet Academy of Nepal to exchange various cultural programmes.

Similarly, Radio Nepal and All India Radio will sign another MoU cooperation and exchange of various programmes. Respective governments from both sides have already got these MoUs approved from the respective Cabinets, said sources.

During Oli’s visit, a formal announcement of importing 80 MW electricity through the recently installed Dhalkebar- Muzaffarpur 400kV transmission line will also be made.

Besides four MoUS, several other MoUs could also be signed. (ANI)
