ANNFSU sit-in at NOC office demanding smooth supply

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML-aligned All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) on Sunday staged a sit-in at the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) central office in the Capital demanding the smooth supply of petroleum products including cooking gas in the Kathmandu valley.

The students affiliated to the ANNFSU assembled in front of the NOC office in Babarmahal and called for revocation of the permission granted to Birat Petroleum Private Limited to import petroleum products at a higher rate.

ANNFSU Chairperson Nabina Lama blamed what she termed as ‘ill intention’ on part of some businesspersons for the existing artificial shortage of essential fuel products including cooking gas in the market.

She said that allowing the BPPL to sell petroleum products at rates exceeding the normal price would not be justified.

ANNFSU Vice-Chairperson, Mahesh Bartaula, demanded a probe into the seeming shortage of those commodities citing the continuity of black marketing despite an increase in the import.

The Union is scheduled to draw the attention of the Prime Minister towards the issue on Monday.
