KATHMANDU, March 20: The Finance Committee of the Legislature-Parliament on Sunday directed the government to construct Nijgadh International Airport and Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhes Fast Track on its own.
The meeting of the committee concluded that the government should mobilize its own resources for construction of the airport saying that it is a project of national significance.
Chairman of the House panel Prakash Jwala said the government has been directed to forward all the construction works by managing own resources keeping the national interest at the center.
“Committee members stressed that the government should start the work by taking decision on design, cost estimation and land acquisitions among others,” said Jwala, “The committee directed the government, Finance Ministry, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to start construction works in a transparent manner.”
The government was preparing to award contract for detail study of the airport to International Finance Corporation (IFC).
Likewise, the committee directed to start work of Nijgadh-Kathmandu Tarai/Madhes Fast Track by mobilizing it own resources.
The government had selected Indian Company Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL & FS) to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the expressway. The government was preparing to award the project to IL & FS under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
