Dream of prosperous Asia rests on cooperation, says PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is on an official visit to China, said that the dream of Asia’s future, the dream of peace and prosperity, would fail if any of the Asian states were left behind.

“Our pursuit for ‘common destiny’ will go misspent if anyone is left behind.  Make no mistake, the Asian future should rest on the citadel of inclusiveness,” the Prime Minister said while addressing the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference-2016 on Thursday.

He was of the opinion that the advancements in innovation and technology have opened avenues for the development of Asia.

He said the momentous development in information and communication technology, significant achievements in industrial productions had bore potentials to vitalise the economic performance and to galvanise the future of Asia.

Saying that such innovations must serve the cause of human progress, the Prime Minister said that technology must be accessible to all of the states without any prohibitive constraint.

“To construct a prosperous and flourishing future by harnessing the dynamics of Asia; our efforts must build a cooperation model which will equitably distribute the opportunities and benefits,” PM said.

“Our collective vision must create a cooperation model which will enable a free flow of ideas, unimpeded links of trade, and an enduring instance of win-win situation; a cooperation model where the states do not exploit the vulnerabilities of others,” he said.

Prime Minister Oli went on to say that the vision of Asia must be accomodative and inclusive.

He further went on to say that Asia has been emerging as the powerhouse of global economy.

Though the markets were flourishing, industries were growing, jobs were being created and many of the Asians had been lifted out of the poverty, he said, the vicious circle of poverty still stared at courtyard of Asia.

He said that rise of Asia must not be extractive in approach, adding, ascent of Asia must not be fragile in structure.

Prime Minister Oli said that this was a huge moment for Asia, to seize the opportunities, to unleash the potentials and to march ahead towards new future, with new dynamics and new vision.

“I am confident that we will, together, make headway towards a prosperous future, a shared future of Asia,” he said.

On a different note, Prime Minister Oli thanked all the states of Asia for their support to promulgate the Constitution.

He said that Nepal promulgated a democratic and inclusive Constitution through the Constituent Assembly to embrace the aspirations people.
