Mar 12, 2016- Nepali Congress leaders Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Gagan Thapa want the party’s new leadership to take charge of implementing the new constitution.
Leaders Sitaula and Thapa, defeated in their respective race for party’s president and general secretary during the party’s 13th general convention, warned that the new constitution could be a mere sheet of paper if the local level, state level and general elections were not conducted on time.
“The new leadership should make necessary amendments to all the achieved political gains and guide the country towards progress and prosperity,” said Sitaula at a tea reception organised by his panel to thank all the party’s representatives for voting them in the general convention. He assured to play a supportive role for that cause.
Another leader Thapa also reiterated Sitaula’s word and said they would be supportive of the new leadership to implement the new constitution. “We will be united and stand against the delay to implement the new constitution,” he said.
The leaders claimed to have received a respectable number of votes during the party election and hinted at a formation of a third faction in the Nepali Congress. “Those votes for us have urged us to hold our grounds. We don’t have other better alternative than that,” said Sitaula.
