PM Oli inspects Tehri Dam

Mussoorie, February 21 – Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inspected a powerhouse at the Tehri Dam today.

Oli reached New Tehri, headquarters of Tehri Garhwal district, in a chopper of the Indian Army.

Minister of State (IC) for. Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal and state Tourism Minister Dinesh Dhanai welcomed him.

The Nepal Prime Minister along with his delegation immediately headed to the Tehri Hydroelectric Corporation powerhouse and enquired about the power generation.

Officials of Tehri Hydro Development Company (THDC) explained him about the technicalities involved in running one of the largest dams of Asia.

Piyush Goyal informed the Nepal Prime Minister and his team that around 125 villages, which were affected due to the project, had been rehabilitated at Rishikesh, Hardiwar and Dehradun.

THDC Technical Director DP Singh apprised the Nepal PM about the technical support taken for the completion of the project. He stated that the THDC was earning Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore per day from the project.

The visit of the Nepal Prime Minister is seen as an effort on part of the Nepal government to gain technical expertise for the proposed Pancheshwar Dam on the Kali river in Nepal.

Tehri MP Maharani Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah, Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay, Nepal Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa and Foreign Minister along with THDC officials were present on the occasion.
